SPIRIT

The name Gōlkōnḍa has been used as a symbol for material and spiritual wealth.  It
conjures up different meanings for different ethos and cultures.

“The very word is associated with fabulous wealth, bejewelled princes and horses, turbaned traders and covered oriental bazaars, tales of romance and chivalry, of Qutb Shahi and Mogul harems guarded by sword- wielding Abyssinian eunuchs, and soldiers mounted on fine Arabian steeds. In short, the ambiance in the Qutb Shahi fort of Golconda was the closest an Indian could experience of the distant yet familiar scenes of the Alf Layla wa layla, the Thousand and One Arabian Nights.”

Romance of Golconda the diamonds, Omar Khalidi

The actual mines were situated in various districts.  The diamonds were brought to, and stored in, the royal fort of Golconda, also known for its acoustic architecture.  There were eight main gates and a trading market in its vicinity. The fort contained the royal palace, the treasury and mansions of the nobility.

“The treasury has its source in the mines,
From the treasury the army comes into being,

With the treasury and the army, the Earth is obtained.”

Chanakya - Kautilya, Arthashastra, 2nd century BCE

The mines were owned by the king and the operations were leased to merchants.  All stones over 10 carats had to be turned over to the royal treasury.  It is generally assumed that the peak period of mining was from the 16th to 18th centuries, with roughly thirty mines in operation. These diamonds were dispersed all over the globe as a result of legitimate trade, smuggling, theft and other unlawful means.

Wars have been fought over them for regalia and as displays of wealth.  Today, many of these diamonds reside in Crown Jewels, private collections and are also used to back national currencies.  In modern times these diamonds also act as symbols of peace and harmony for future generations, as humanity reflects upon collective histories.

Famous diamonds from this area include the Dresden Green, Hope, Dariya-i-Nur, Koh-i-Noor, Idol’s Eye, Orlov, Nassak, Regent and others.

Considered as personal identity, protection and persona, jewels have been appreciated throughout time : ancient, present and future.

Superstition, Sentiment and Supernatural.

The word diamond originates from Sanskrit dyu, meaning ‘luminous being’, aura, a symbol of light and brilliance. The word is also linked with Greek adamas, meaning 'unconquerable', as it is the hardest substance known to man.

It is an emblem of courage, victory and invincibility.  In a world of constant change, its durability and permanence has been appreciated. Its properties of ‘asset compression’ and portability exist to this day.

Diamonds have been worn for many reasons as a symbol of worship, protection and to represent marital status. They hold sentimental value or symbolize important milestones, beliefs and memories.  The diamond is a mineral formed of carbon, and is the only gem composed of a single element.  Due to its atomic structure it has the ability to refract light more than any other transparent substance and can produce a full spectrum of wavelengths.

Gold, like all elements, formed through high energy reactions that occurred in various cosmic and space environments when the universe started to form. Silver, gold and copper are often called the coinage metals and are among the oldest traded commodities in the world. Noble metals are a group of metallic elements that have outstanding resistance to corrosion even at high temperatures.

CARBON

Billions of  years ago during the creation of the universe, matter spread and assimilated into this planet we live on today.

The element Carbon is a ‘building block of life’, and in the earth it was crystallized to form diamonds. It is one of natures ‘ultimate expression’. From the simplest material object to the highest transcendental embodiment, a diamond describes a vast spectrum body of dormant and unfolding spiritual potency.

Human beings are also composed of carbon that could ‘crystallize’, to attain the state of ‘nirvana’ or ‘universal consciousness’, through self realization.

Things that originate from nature and the attributes assigned to them by humanity since time immemorial. These emotional and practical attributes vary across civilizations and time.  As these attributes change, the planet and humanity changes.

SPIRIT

The original virtues of diamonds are pure brilliance, with values of love, humanity and compassion.  In astrology, diamond is the gemstone of Venus.  It increases artistic, creative abilities and devotion in love, marriage.  It was thought to endow the wearer with superior strength and victory.

Gemstone therapy has been widely used in medicine practices.Gems are elemental forms of energy in pure crystalline form and our bodies are ultimately composed of the same substances, making it an effective method for healing on emotional and physical levels.

It is advised to wear the diamond with an ‘open back’ ring or pendant, so that the stone comes in direct contact with the skin, ensuring constant protection.

DIAMOND SUTRA

In the Buddhist text, Diamond Sutra or Perfection of Wisdom, the first creative work with an explicit public domain created ‘for universal free distribution’, Vajra or diamond or lightning thunderbolt is an abstract term for a powerful weapon.

“To cut as a metaphor for the type of wisdom that cuts and shatters illusions to get to ultimate reality.”

It identifies preconceived, limited notions of the nature of reality, emphasizing that all phenomena are ultimately illusory and true enlightenment cannot be grasped until one has set aside attachment to them.

CHAKRAS:

The seven main chakras :

Mula-dhara   Spine base   Red

Swadhi-sthana   Navel-below Orange

Mani-puraka   Navel-above   Yellow

Ana-hata   Heart   Green

Visu-dha   Throat   Blue

Ajna      Third eye    Indigo

Saha-sara   Crown  Violet

The chakras or ‘lotuses’ are centers of consciousness within the astral or subtle bodies.  They are part of a ‘nervous system’.

Light is a universal language. Archaic, Primal light or ‘Nūr, Noor’  is the source of time, the first creation and all else is created from it.

‘Light of Enlightenment’ is contained as ‘potential’ in the form of a ‘coiled serpent inside an inverted triangle’, at the base of the spine.

Once pierced and channels activated, the spectral wavelengths, geometries, sounds and other properties of each chakra leads the aspirant to ‘higher planes’.

The ‘journey’ of a diamond is ‘mirrored’ as the experiences of life.

The human physiology is superimposed and made analogous to the anatomy of a diamond.

Everything exists in micro, subtle or macro, gross forms.

The ◊ diamond shape is a global and an eternal symbol.

It consists of two pyramids with points in opposite directions, connecting the Earth and Sky, the core of the earth to the eye of the Milky Way galaxy via the ‘Heart’.

It symbolizes the union of opposites, representing a journey to enlightenment, higher understanding and the  peak of intellectual knowledge.

Pyramids are considered as conduits of natural electromagnetic energy.  Diamonds have trigons on their surfaces and Light is formed of triangular subatomic particles.

Geometry is alchemy and hermetic. It is used for directing consciousness towards higher planes of existence, serving as a bridge from the mortal to the divine.

"The Self is symbolized with special frequency in the form of a stone. The nuclear center, the Self, also appears as a crystal. The crystal often symbolically stands for the union of extreme opposites of matter and spirit."

Man and his Symbols, C. G. Jung

CHARMS, TALISMANS

The timeless beliefs in the magic and power of objects, to capture emotions, protect and heal while accentuating the beauty that resides within each individual.

An antique octagonal enameled gold case from Lucknow or Deccan, India was intricately designed as a talisman to hold prayer books or sacred ceremonial objects. 1750-1800

The talismanic influence or the ability to channel divine energy and protect the wearer from evil forces, is associated with the planets, signs of the zodiac and constellations.

Beyond their aesthetic appeal as beautiful objects and ornaments, precious stones have been engraved with symbols, images of gods, animals, and emperors, to gain an added potency.

Personal names and dates have been inscribed on gems, creating a ‘chain of custody’, blockchain, and to draw the ‘spirit’ of the gem.

According to some beliefs, the talismanic power of a diamond was lost if the stone was purchased, only when gifted as a pledge of love or friendship, it was thought to remain intact.

It has been said that the first diamonds discovered by Europeans in South Africa were found in the leather bag of a ‘magician’.

“Whereas a gem might be prized for its beauty by a single individual owner, a stone of curious and suggestive form sometimes claimed the reverence of an entire tribe, since it was thought to be the abode or the chosen instrument of some spirit or genius.”

The Magic of Jewels and Charms, George Kunz

INDRA’S NET OF JEWELS

“The realm of Indra is a region for the virtuous alone, with celestial gardens of sacred trees.

The abode is eight hundred miles in circumference and forty miles in height.  The pillars are composed of diamonds, and everything is made of pure gold.”

A vast, infinite net of precious gems stretches in all directions and hangs over the palace of Indra.

At each node or ‘eye’ of the net there is a single glittering perfect jewel that reflects all the other jewels through their polished surfaces, creating an infinite reflection.  When any jewel in the net is touched, all other jewels in the nodes are affected, symbolizing the interpenetrating universe as a web of connections and interdependencies.  Everything contains everything else and yet each thing is individual.

COSMIC EGG

The story of the search for order, pattern and meaning in the cosmos is ancient.  It is the voyage of ‘self discovery’.

Considered as a source of creation, the ‘egg’ is an archaeological, mythological motif and is found across many cultures.

Odyssey of the human species.

According to Superstring Theory, the universe is made up of 10 dimensions :

First dimension: Length, or the x-axis.

Second dimension: Height, or the y-axis

Third dimension: Depth, or the z-axis

Fourth dimension: Time

Fifth and sixth dimensions: Possible worlds

Seventh dimension: Possible worlds with different initial conditions

Eighth dimension: Possible universe histories with different initial conditions

Ninth dimension: Possible universe histories with different laws of physics and initial conditions

Tenth dimension: All possible branches for all possible timelines of all possible universes
